Great Plains Chemicals & Vaporph3os

Great Plains Chemicals & Fumigation Services is now proud to offer Precision Fumigation with the Horn Diluphos System and Precision Monitoring with the Fosfoquim Phosphine Monitor. The Horn Diluphos System is a revolutionary new method of phosphine application. This method is the biggest improvement for fumigation with phosphine in the last 70 years.

The HDS (Horn Diluphos System) is an automated system, which allows the direct dilution of pure phosphine with air, allowing the injection of an air phosphine mixture into the enclosure to fumigate with concentrations from 0 to 10,000 ppm. The system includes a series of safety mechanisms, which will avoid damage in any risk situation, even such as a power failure.

In order to operate the system it is only required to connect the equipment to an electrical supply, to a nitrogen cylinder and to a phosphine cylinder. Then, instruction for operation is shown on an LCD screen. Nitrogen is used to purge pipes, hoses and activate valves.

The system injects an air and phosphine mixture at a pressure of 30 cm water column, enough pressure to penetrate and distribute the air/gas mixture in any stored commodity, with the great advantage that the mixture has the same density as pure air, which assures a fast and good distribution and diffusion.

There are many advantages to using the HDS over conventional Aluminum Phosphide-pellets and tablets. Some of the advantages are:

  • It is not necessary to place the fumigant in various locations of the facility.
  • It is not necessary to enter into the facility.
  • There is no need to collect, deactivate and dispose of spent material, following the fumigation.
  • There are no environmental problems as only hydrogen phosphide is applied, which is readily deactivated by sunlight upon the release     into the atmosphere.
  • There is no risk of ignition since the phosphine concentration never exceeds 18,000 ppm.
  • Phosphine levels do not depend on temperature or on moisture levels in the air.
  • The required concentration of gas for the fumigation is reached early during the fumigation period.
  • The gas concentration can be changed at any time during the fumigation.
  • The fumigation can be stopped at any time and the commodity can be aerated immediately.
  • There are no residues.
  • The amount of gas applied will be exactly the amount needed. If the concentration is lower than the required, it is possible to redose     from outside, at any time.
  • The gas can be applied to a totally sealed structure, as the gas from the cylinders is mixed with air taken from the inside of the     structure to be fumigated and therefore only a very slow increase of pressure is developed.
